Times May Change! Me ... but I can't Change! time
The sound of Change! begins with 3 simple notes pounded on the wood hammered duclimer. The rosewood sound box serves as a microphone, resonations cling together(creating an almost electronic sounding tone which lies beneath the song structure.) The percussive dulcimer playing gets faster, repetative and hypnotic. Found sounds and heavily deconstructed samples crackle from an adjacent laptop. Then, a theremin voice sings in the background and echos with delay and reverb. Lastly, appears the vocalist (with a unique glam-folk delivery style) and confrontational stage presence.
A Change! performance is like being at a Venetian masquarade, surrounded by beautiful and scary costumes and masks. Shadows and colours that tempt, attract and lure as much as they intimidate and destabilize your grounded consious. Androgenous lifeforms parading around “atomospheric-heavy dream pop” (thank you East Bay Express.) Each song is pscyzophrenic as the moods swiftly shift from sublime to distraught. And the crowd eats it up, flashing camera lights and waving video cameras. This is a live show which cannot be ignored!
